Face Dub - a program for face and body swap
January 22, 2009 by admin
Stepping away from all kinds of programs useful for photographers both amateur and professional we’ll review this time a program developed for making funny things and amusement.
FaceDub by MaxSlag LLC is, as they say about it, “jokes, e-cards, body swaps, faces, MySpace, Facebook, photofun, funny pictures, face on body software’. And indeed it is.
Lets have a closer look.
Interface and workflow
The whole workflow is very organized and rather than having the whole set of tools at your disposal you are offered at each step the exact tools you need for the moment. And, of course, instruction is given, too. All of this defines the interface layout to some extent.
At each stage the program window is laid out in the same way: some explanation and examples take the left part, the image view the right. The upper panel contains all the tools you need for the moment. Below the image you have the process indicator bar and Back and Next buttons.
Workflow
At the beginning of the process you have to choose a couple of images for your future fun collage. The first image should contain the body, the second - the head you intend to install on the body.

Then you start preparing the selection of the head in a couple of steps: first you draw a rectangular marquee around it, then make a ragh mask (quick mask analogue) with a brush.

Finally, as it is mainly a fun exercise, you can add some text and even put it into a baloon.

The result of the transformation can be saved as an image (if you happened to buy the program) or put to use in a variety of other applications - you can send an e-card, publish your image on the DubFace website or even order a T-shirt or a mug with the monster you created.

As to the quality of the selection and the head-body assemblies, it depends very much on the quality of the image taken and the skill of the performer. It’s obvious that the program is ment for fun not the creation of masterpieces. At the same time FaceDub offers good tools for making the job neat.

The program is easily and quickly downloadable from www.facedub.com and can be used freely for any period of time with a few limitations like no image saving to hard drive or watermarks.
The installation went through easily with no stambles or problems. The setup creates a desktop icon, a menu entry and even a quick menu icon on the bottom panel. At any time you can decide to buy the product (for $29.95) and enjoy the full functionality plus unlimited use of body templates and 30% discount on dub-face merchandize.
