Mac OS X 10.4.10 update adds new camera RAW support

Mac OS X 10.4.10, released as a free update to the Tiger version of Apple's operating system, adds support for the processing of RAW files from the Canon EOS-1D Mark III, Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro, Leica M8, Nikon D40X and more. It also fixes a problem in which Adobe DNG format photos appeared tinted or distorted.

The operating system's RAW format support is used by applications such as Apple's own Aperture and iPhoto to decode, display and convert RAW files. Third party software can also draw on this operating system capability, albeit in a limited way, to handle RAW files too. The Mac version of Camera Bits Photo Mechanic, for example, will display a preview from the RAW data, rather than from a RAW file's internal JPEG, when the q key is pressed in the preview window.
