Noise Ninja
October 3, 2008
This week’s article is about the widely known and popular noise reduction tool - the Noise Ninja. It is used as both a standalone program and a plug-in to different image editors. Noise Ninja, differently from other noise-reduction tools here, has more noise reducing tools and options that will be covered in the article.
In dealing with the noise in the image Noise Ninja takes into account the camera and/or the image itself. It is the 1st step of the workflow to build the noise profile. A set of camera profiles can be loaded from the tool’s manufacturer site or you can set the camera specifications manually.
Colorize-rating
July 8, 2008
Black and white photos coloring is not as popular with developers as other areas and our rating is short this time. Only three programs fall into the category.
Below the rating you will find examples and comments.
Coloriage
June 29, 2008
The next program in the row of black and white coloring programs is Coloriage - a plug-in to a number of image editing programs and a standalone program - issued by Akvis LLC known also by a number of quite useful programs. Coloriage performance is based it seems on the same algorithms as Recolored. At least the workflow is very close and to color an object you don’t need to manipulate your mouse in order to smoothly outline the edge.
Recolored
June 28, 2008
The next article in the series is devoted to Recolored - a standalone program designed for coloring black and white images and/or changing the color of any digital image and performing partial desaturation.
Recolored uses an algorithm that not only recolores objects according to their luminance structure but can define edges of the objects and thus considerably save time and effort of the user.
Black Magic
June 22, 2008

The coloring of black and white photos has been performed quite a long time ago when digital photography has not been heard of yet. And all this time the job demanded skill and precision.
In the new age of digital images and Photoshop we still want to make some of our old black and white photos be seen in color. The process is still to a great extent manual and only a few software developers make attempts at automating it.
Noise reduction tools - MyPhotoSoft rating
June 10, 2008
As usual we publish a rating of reviewed tools and programs. This time we analysed the performance of Noise reduction tools.
The test images you see were processed by each of the programs reviewed at its default settings.
Noise Reduction - tools comparison
June 4, 2008
The traditional conclussive article with the comparative table of each program parameters. The comparison only shows what tool a program has and what it doesn’t. Quality is not evaluated here at all.
Image Doctor
May 30, 2008
Alien Skin Image Doctor is not strictly speaking a noise remover, but is more suitable for repairing images by removing jpg artifacts, scratches and extra texture and softening the skin. The closest to noise reduction function is the jpg repair. Exactly this function of the reviewed tool was tested.
Image Doctor is a plug-in and can be found in Photoshop under filters menu. There, in the menu, you also choose which of the functions you will use at the instance.
